Neptune Aqua Farms is a brain child of three business professionals who formed up together as a team to bring into fruition their passion to create a Sri Lankan brand of fresh mud crabs and other related sea food to the dining tables in the international markets.  The traditional crab industry has been for wild catch to be caught off the lagoons and either packed for the markets or reared in ponds until these crabs attain the legal size.  However, when crabs are reared in community ponds, the level of cannibalization and damages to them are very high.  This results in high mortality rates post harvest and upon shipments due to hairline cracks in their shells or forming of ammonia due to dehydration in transit.  Neptune Farms uses a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) method vertical pods to create a transit and fattening point for crabs caught off the lagoons.  This method allows the crabs to be fed and refreshed until the commercially viable size is attained and/or the shipment time.  As a result, the crabs that are sold or shipped by us are fresh, healthy and without any damage to their shells or claws
